This set of collateral is part of a larger effort to rebrand the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore Maryland. The museum itself showcases a long and important history of one of America's earliest railroads, the Baltimore & Ohio. The entire rebranding encompassed multiple aspects which all aimed at making the museum more visible to not only their target audiences of retirees and young children, but the wider community of Baltimore.
One of the biggest aspects of the rebranding was a new logo for the museum which had to both be historic yet not too obscure that people wouldn't recognize it. As a result, it was styled after some of the steam engines found within the museum. Along with the new logo, one of their new typefaces, Caslon, can be seen in the logo. Caslon serves as their main body copy and goes along nicely with the older style of the logo.
Another aspect of the rebranding was a new web presence. Their old website was dated and quite clunky in terms of user experience. As a result a new site was created with accessibility in mind. While there is a lot to take in, the information is divided in ways that don't make it confusing. There are also elements to appeal to children like the bright colors and boxcars as navigation buttons.
Many of the designs in the rebranding came from elements of the museum itself. One such example can be seen in the bottom right photo, which features two distinct steam locomotives. The steam locomotive to the left, #5300 "President Washington" which served as an inspiration for the new logo. Other elements can be seen in the color scheme, like the rich blues of their locomotives.
